Data Cataloging

Validatar is committed to enhancing transparency about data quality assets and issues with QA testers and developers but also business users and Data Stewards. That's why we've introduced new features to enhance metadata and data process awareness for Validatar Enterprise and Validatar Teams users!

  • Catalog Custom Fields are user-defined fields that provide additional information about metadata objects. You can configure and apply them to each data source, view them in the Explorer, and use them to build template tests.
    • Populate custom fields for a data source via File or SQL Ingestion
  • You can now find Lineage visualized in Validatar! View track-back and track-forward diagrams for tables and columns in the Explorer.
    • Provide lineage data via File or SQL Query
  • You can also add Custom fields to Template tests
  • To help you get started, we'll ship a group of default custom fields once you upgrade!
    • Validatar Enterprise users can create an unlimited number of custom fields.
    • Validatar Teams users can create a maximum of 20 custom fields.

Template Test Improvements

  • We've renamed Reference Tags to reflect the diversity of Validatar objects better. Don't worry, your existing tests will automatically map to the new tags!
  • You can now drag and drop reference tags into a Template test instead of copying and pasting. You can also drag and drop reference tags in custom profile definitions.
  • We've added a Search box in the References pane to make objects more accessible. You can also filter by reference type: Variable, Technical Metadata, Custom Field, and Profile.
  • The reference pane was reorganized by object type: Test Variables, Data Source, Schema, Table, Column, and Profile.
  • You can use Custom fields in the template test configuration now.
  • Fully-qualified reference tags were added to the references list.

Reports Enhancement

We introduced Reporting in 2021.3, and now we're offering more flexibility around what data you can report.

  • Select the columns and rearrange their order in the view using the Edit Columns feature on the report page.
  • We've added the ability to export the report to an Excel file.

User Improvements

  • You can now add User groups to Project Permissions in addition to individual users.
  • We've added default permission sets to Data Source and Project Permissions to streamline assigning permissions.

Other Improvements

  • Create a Data Source in a Project: You can create a new data source from the Project Data Sources page.
  • Default Profile Sets: Validatar automatically detects when you're creating a custom profile set.
  • Rearranged Columns on Home Page: The date column is first, which links to the metadata refresh and data source issue execution.
  • Default Metadata Links: The metadata link box is automatically populated with metadata reference tags when Template tests are created.

Highlighted Bug Fixes

  • We've fixed a bug that incorrectly displays numeric differences in test results sent to the test repository.
  • We've fixed a bug that kept template tests materializing without profile references.
  • We've corrected a bug where metadata links aren't displayed when viewing a test in read-only mode.
  • We've fixed a bug that displays result trend values in the Explorer for projects the user does not have view access to.
