Overview
Both Validatar Cloud and Server editions have access to the Validatar data agent. If you're on Validatar Cloud and wish to query on-premise data in addition to cloud data sources, you must install the data agent.
Data Agent Prerequisites
Validatar Data Agent requires .NET Runtime 8.0x to be installed which you can download here. Be sure to scroll past the ASP.NET Core Runtime and .NET Desktop Runtime sections to reach the appropriate .NET Runtime Windows x64 installer.
Installation Steps
Download the Data Agent installer from https://admin.validatar.com/releases under the appropriate release.
Open the validatar-data-agent file.
Select the Destination Folder. The C:\ drive is selected by default.
Enter a port number to use for the embedded web server. Port 3282 is the default and should be used unless a different application is already listening on port 3282.
Click Install.
Leave Configure the Data Agent checked.
Click Finish.
After the installation is complete, Validatar will open in a browser window with your Data Agent Key.
Click Assign to Validatar instance.
Enter the Validatar API URL.
You can find your API Endpoint URL by opening Validatar in another tab and clicking the information icon on the Validatar header bar.
3. Click Assign.
Finish the Setup
After adding the API URL, log into Validatar to finish setting up the Data Agent.
1. Fill out the required fields.
Choose an existing Group or create a New Assigned Group
Naming Convention Tip
Agent Name: It's important to choose a name that relates to the machine it is installed on. While IP addresses can be used, we recommend adding a user-friendly name in front of the IP address. However, if your IP address is subject to change, it may be advisable to omit the IP address altogether.
Group Name: When naming the data agent group, it is crucial to choose a name that reflects its purpose or aligns with other similar data agents based on network location or machine capabilities. This data agent group name will be selected when configuring data sources and should provide clarity on where the processing will occur for anyone creating data sources.
2. Click Assign.
The data agent is now successfully attached to Validatar.
Data Agent Configuration Settings
Back in Validatar, navigate to Settings > Configuration > Data Agents to view each Data Agent.
You'll be able to pull configuration and exception logs for each agent as well as modify the agent's name, description, and assigned group. You'll also be able to see data agent statistics such as version, last start date, and last message date. Lastly, you can view and install Python modules on the agent.
