Overview
Creating a test from your Validatar Catalog is a simple process that allows users who are not familiar with all of the details of Validatar's test engine to still create useful tests on the objects they are reviewing in the Catalog area of Validatar. Users will be able to:
- Add tests at either the table or column level
- Add tests one at a time or apply the same test concept to multiple objects at the same time
- Easily search for and select multiple entries from the Tables or Columns grid
- Create new tests or update existing tests if they already exist
- Configure test variables or related custom metadata as part of the Test Wizard
- Run tests directly in the Catalog
- Add tests to any Job with an active schedule
In this article, you can walk through a step by step guide to easily creating tests from the Catalog.
Adding a test to a single table
Step by Step Guide:
- In this scenario you are adding a single test, "table row count - in range" to a single table, RAW.ACCOUNT
- Your goal is to ensure that the number of rows in your ACCOUNT table is between 10,000 and 15,000
- Navigate to the table in the Catalog
- Open the Tests tab
- Click on the Add Test button
- The Test Wizard will appear and you will need to select the "table row count - in range" test
- You can filter and search the available tests to be added using the panel on the left hand side of the wizard
- Once you have selected the test, hit Next
- The wizard will ask you what values you would like to set for the Test Variables that are relevant for this Template Test
- Set those to your preferred values, in my case 10000 and 15000 and hit Next
- The wizard will display the test name that it will be creating for you
- Click Create Test and a new standard test will be created based on the "table row count - in range" template and your provided inputs
